Optical activity of solids from first principles

چکیده

Within the framework of independent particle approximation, optical activity tensor solids is formulated as from different contributions: magnetic dipole, electric quadrupole, and band dispersion terms. The first two terms have similar counterparts in theory finite systems, while last term unique for crystals. dipole quadrupole transition moments are calculated with a sum-over-states formulation. We apply formulation to calculate analyze rotation elemental tellurium circular dichroism $(6,4)$ carbon nanotube. Decomposed into contributions discussed. spectra agree well experiments. As showcase achiral crystals, we wurtzite GaN.
